I'm The Leader But I'm Not Responsible

One of the purposes of this blog is to generate thought and discussion about the nature of leadership.  I find myself pondering a weighty leadership question today.  I hate pondering alone, so I invite you to join me.

I heard a brief snippet of the Parliamentary hearings today with Rupert and James Murdoch regarding the phone hacking scandal.  An excerpt from a story on the MSNBC website:

“More than once, he answered with a simple, jaunty "nope" when asked whether he bore responsibility for the scandal, which has already claimed the jobs of two of his most trusted deputies: Rebekah Brooks, head of Murdoch's British newspapers, who was editor of the News of the World during the worst of the questionable journalistic practices, and Les Hinton, her predecessor in the job and later CEO of Dow Jones.

Do You Look Like a Leader?

There was a fascinating article in The Chronicle of Higher Education a few weeks ago entitled, “What Does a Leader Look Like?”.  The article describes how a candidate for a senior leadership position “had an amazing day on campus and then went down in flames in the final hour.”
