I am a court-certified mediator in Virginia. I volunteer for a non-profit mediation center and a few times a quarter I am available to mediate court-referred cases. I had one such case recently and it reminded me of the importance of noticing our emotions and not letting them guide our decision-making.

Part of the human condition is learning how to deal with pain and disappointment. This is true for all of us - even if you had the "perfect" childhood and family. You (and me) developed thought habits and behaviors designed to help us cope with difficult times. You wrote stories to help you make sense of your world, such as "I am good at …", or "I don't like ….", or "I believe ….".
