Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine.

Getting Out of Your Own Way
Leaders and teams get out of their own way when they:
Challenge self-limiting beliefs and behaviors
Focus on possibilities instead of problems
Fully realize the importance of positive relationships and effective team dynamics in achieving results
Powerful Results
Leaders and teams partnering with Powerful Purpose Leadership may expect:
To feel empowered
To discover and use their strengths to positively affect their future
To make new possibilities reality
To become more creative and innovative
To energize and engage team members
To create an team culture that encourages collaboration
To maximize limited resources by identifying their team's core purpose.
Find Your Power
Fulfill Your Purpose
Powerful Purpose Leadership helps leaders and teams find their power and fulfill their purpose, resulting in the achievement of their desired future despite substantial organizational challenges. Leaders and teams learn how to build up and build on their individual and collective strengths. They become possibility seekers instead of just problem solvers. Leadership and team performance is enhanced - they learn how to get out of their own way.
What We Believe
We believe that leaders and teams inhibit their leadership growth and development, and in turn organizational effectiveness, by focusing on what's not working as opposed to what is working.
We believe that leaders and teams can learn how to get out of their own way and respond more effectively to professional and organizational challenges.
We believe that everyone can practice leadership; an official title or position is not required.
We believe that the best leaders look for new possibilities and encourage their followers to experiment, take risks and have the freedom to discover their own paths in service to their organization's purpose and goals.
How We Approach Leadership Development
There is no shortage of books on effective leadership and positive team dynamics. Yet, we know from experience that knowledge is necessary, but not sufficient for being and doing our best. How we make sense of ourselves and our world impacts how well we are able to apply knowledge. Comprehensive leadership development consists of competency development (skills, abilities, behaviors) and cognitive development (expanding one's thinking to allow for new possibilities).
In many leadership development programs there is an over-emphasis on competency development and not enough on cognitive development. Cognitive development, represented by the stages of adult leadership development, is necessary to prepare leaders for increasingly complex organizational challenges. We work with clients to help them learn what is stopping them from being their best and achieving their most important outcomes. PPL's approach bridges the gap between knowing about leadership and successfully applying this knowledge.
Individuals and teams most effectively change by focusing on their strengths, by learning lessons from past successes and by emphasizing things that are working. They ask the question, “What is working and how do we do more of it?” rather than “What is not working and how do we stop doing it?”. PPL uses a six-step strengths-based process to facilitate development and growth.
Our clients discover BOTH their character strengths (e.g. personality attributes) AND their behavioral strengths. This, coupled with asking, "What's working?", allows them to tap into what is best about who they are and what they do. They are able to apply these strengths and lessons to address their challenges.
What We Do
Our special focus is working with higher education administrators and association executives. Higher education and association leaders are asked to respond to competing demands from multiple stakeholders with increasingly limited resources. PPL is committed to helping higher education and association leaders see beyond all barriers to create their desired future.
While institutions of higher education and associations are our focus, we welcome partnerships with both non-profit and for-profit leaders who want to become possibility seekers.
